ABOUT TERESA

From my kitchen to yours...

Hi everyone! My name is Teresa and, as you may have guessed, I hail from the beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa. My passion for food has its roots in my childhood - I have many fond memories of baking mince pies & biscuits over the Christmas holidays, granny's apple pie and custard, mom's muesli slowly baking in the oven, plum jam bubbling on the stove and Monday night roast chicken being enjoyed with home made gravy. And this is where it all started.

A bit about my foodie background.... after school I went on to complete a National Diploma in Food and Nutrition, this included the theory side of food as well as lots of practical training in the kitchen. After graduating I began working at a leading upmarket food store in Cape Town, initially starting in the deli and working my way up to a management position. As part of my work I had daily dealings with the stores suppliers - most of whom delivered exquisite handmade goods. I would often think about what it would be like to set up my own small business doing the same, and after a brainwave I approached the owners with an idea for a product I could produce and supply. They agreed to give me a chance and over the next few years my product range grew from one to several lines, including everything from handmade chocolate truffles to iced tea.

Five years later I took the decision to sell my business in order to pursue another dream - traveling. Newly-wed, my husband and I packed our bags and headed to London.

Three and half years (and one very full passport) later we returned to the Cape and I took up a position at another food company, this time as a Product Developer where I stayed for 2 years. I now work from home doing freelance food writing and recipe development, in between raising two fantastic tiny humans.

My goal on this blog is to spread the foodie love! I will be sharing some of my tried and trusted recipes, tweaked and perfected over the years - because let's face it, I've never been good at sticking to the recipe - that I hope will inspire you to get into the kitchen.

As a busy mom I often revert to the same recipes at home for convenience, but I plan to challenge myself too... seeking out new ingredients and spending more time diving into my collection of recipe books and magazine clippings to try something new! (And to share the results with you of course.)

I would love to hear your comments and suggestions so please get in touch.

Well, with the introduction concluded there's nothing more to do except pull up a kitchen stool and make yourself at home. Here we go...
